Finished with a patient today!!

I am excited that I finished with my sister today on scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatment today. I never thought that I would finish on someone, I thought that I would only finish the two quandrants that I proposed treatment on. I still need to practice with probing because I am still slow, I need to pick up my pace and be more confident in my probe readings. I passed off my PPE evaluation today, I want to pass off my explorer PE and Anterior instrument PE on Wednesday.

Yesterday's clinic

I felt that I had an easier time probing than I have previous times before. I kept asking my aunt who was my patient if my pressure was fine and she thought it was just fine. I still feel that I need to work on practicing my probing at home on my typodont and also positioning myself so that I am not killing my back. I also need to work still on my time utilization, Hopefully as more time goes on I will be able get more confidence in my skills which will help with time utilization. I also think I will invest in getting loops because in clinic instructor Carter let me use her loops and I was able to see the probe readings easier.

Paperwork!!

I feel as if I am always running out of time in clinic and also trying to remember everything that I am supposed to fill out in the chart. I still feel that I don't have the step by step process of completing the walk-out statement and also the proposed statement.
My goal in probing is to have a light modified pen grasp instead of a death grip when probing. Another goal that have is to work on time utilization,I think that will come within time as the semester goes on. I was glad that my patient today was a class 1b because this category has the most requirement out of all the requirements which I worry about fulfilling.

Scaling for the first time

I was able to only scale one quandrant today on my sister. Instructor Carter was helpful in showing me how to position myself for scaling. Also to look at the roots of the teeth on the typodont is helpful in knowing which direction in correctly positioning the probe when probing. I actually didn't have as much anxiety this time, I hope it gets easier with each clinic time. I know what I will be doing this weekend is practicing on my typodont. Also another concern that I have is becoming more organized and utilizing my time in clinic so that I am to get all my requirements fulfilled.

Back to reality

We practiced scaling today on the typodont and I also practiced probing on Melissa today. I feel that I forgot how to do some of the skills we passed off last semester. I even forgot my eaglesoft password, I had to ask Mrs. Campbell what it was. I think that I will definitely have to go home and practice.
