Adaptation, Angulation, and Activation

Passed off the PE today and I practiced scaling. It was a lot of fun to feel what calculus actually feels like. It was also fun to see everyone dressed up today in their halloween costumes.

Instrument Classification

I feel more confident with scaling now that I have grasped the concept of the exploring. I still feel that I need to practice more at home on typodont. I heard it takes you doing the skill 20 times before you have actual concept. I am so glad that Professor Costley is back from her vacation. This weekend my goal is to practice exploring and probing.

Dental Screening

Today as far as I got to on the order of assessment was dental probing. I still need to master the skill of probing and exploring. I need to practice more!!Need to look over clinic module to remind myself for dental screening.

Community oral health

I was reading in chapter 2 the factors affecting dental pubic health which stated the number one issue facing dental care delivery in the United States today is access to dental care. There are various reasons: (1) Hygienists are restricted to providing care with the supervision of dentists. (2) People lack financial resources and transportation. (3)socioeconomic status of individuals affects the access to dental care. Also in the book it said that more than half (57 percent) of parents report unmet dental needs of their children, which is nearly five times the number reporting the needs for eyeglasses. For about a year I had to go without medical and dental insurance because I only worked part-time which doesn't provide medical and dental insurance, insurance coverage was only for full-time employees. I could only work part-time because I was going to college at this time,I was able to utilize our student clinic for medical issues. Often think what if I didn't have our student clinic where would I have gone?

CLINIC

I feel a little discouraged right know. I feel that today's clinic professor Gall helped me out tremendously with one on one in areas that I need to work on exploring and probing. She gave me some helpful pointers on practicing on my typodont at home.

I passed off my instrument grasp today. I was glad that we went over exact order from beginning of health history. I was confused and I felt that I was leaving important information so going over this today clarified a lot for me. I still need to practice on typodont at home probing and exploring.

We were all given a patient history to go over today. I thought this was very helpful to do today in clinic. I can believe that it took us the entire clinic time. I am taking my patient history home to review.

I passed of the intra-oral exam PE today, I had a hard time recalling everything from the PE, I will keep on reviewing to remember. I am going to practice with exploring and probing at home today so I will be able to pass off the PE for Wednesday.

Clinic today

Passed off the extra-oral PE. Still having difficulty with fulcrumming. I am going to practice on the weekend.

CLINIC TODAY

Passed off the dental mirror and fulcrum today, but I still need to practice more. I will probably go home and practice. Also practiced probing on each other today and learning the BFI index today and whether generalized, marginalized, discrete etc.
